About

S.Rhett is a Brooklyn based artist and is the working alias of the designer Stephen Bashore. He has a BA in Graphic Design from the University of the Arts, where he trained under instructors from the Basel School of Design, which is known for its clean Swiss design aesthetic. As a designer he has created award winning designs that have been featured in many design publications and his portfolio ranges from branding and printed materials, to large scale interactive installations and experiences.

S.Rhett’s artwork incorporates the dismantling of the human figure by taking silhouettes of male and female models and translating them into a pointillistic pattern. This strips the human figures of their density and transforms them into a flat graphic, creating an eerie quality of transparency in a usually solid figure. The dots are a two dimensional shape that when put together in a grouping create an illusion of depth and mass, enabling the shape to be viewed as something of substance while maintaining transparency. S.Rhett is drawn to the way this translucence can manifest in 2D and 3D work and how this minimalistic representation of human beings can convey shared experiences and emotions without showing the whole human form.

In his 3D work you can see his understanding of materials and the relationship with the dot figures. In his 2D work you can see the clean Swiss-inspired design come forward with the dot figures and the figures relationship within the image.
